Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy (MFR / CST) uses light touch techniques to bring release, alignment and balance to the tissues of the body and nervous system, and deep release, relaxation and rejuvenation to the emotions and mind.
The treatment is given on a massage table, with gentle sustained pressure or holds over different parts of the body. Its a similar principle to the yin yoga practice, when we are working to release restrictions in the fascia – gentle sustained pressure at the edge of the restriction + time + stillness = release. I was inspired to train in these techniques as I found yin yoga so beneficial in dealing with my chronic back pain, and found the treatments calming for my nervous system after experiencing epileptic episodes.
These techniques are also effective in working with pain, restoring motion within the body and releasing tension holding patterns. These techniques work well, particularly with with yoga practitioners or those with a physical practice, when there is something in the body you can’t quite shift.
Myofascial Release (MFR) and CST treatments may be beneficial for but not limited to:
General aches and pains, tightness or discomfort in the body
Lower back discomfort and pain
Leg and hip pain
Arm and shoulder pain
Headaches, migraines, sinus discomfort
Fatigue and sleep problems
Stress tension and anxiety related problems
Jaw pain and discomfort / Temperomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)
