Guided Meditation & Cultivating Emotional Balance – Saturdays 11am to 12 @ Hubert St – By Donation

April: Cultivating Compassion with open heart and open mind – compassion meditations, empathy vs compassion, our interconnected relationship and its importance.  Note: classes start 10 April (no class 3 April).

Each session will include guided meditations, a short talk and a discussion drawn from the Cultivating Emotional Balance program.  We will practice meditations to calm the mind, expand our perceptions of the world and cultivate the positive qualities of the heart.

Cultivating Emotional Balance (CEB) is an educational training committed to utilising the experience of emotion as a path for developing the happiness of being for ourselves and in relationship to others.  By integrating the wisdom traditions of modern psychology, current emotion research, and contemplative practices, CEB provides a secular platform for transformation.  With the tools of CEB, we can draw upon our human capacity to wisely and compassionately actualise individual and collective well-being and reform a wholesome relationship with the planet.

6.15pm Hatha Yoga Intermediate @ Hubert St

Tuesday 6:15 – 7:15pm @ Hubert – with Jude

Hatha Yoga is a combination of asanas (postures) and pranayama (energy control using the breath) built on a foundation of ethics. This asana practice works towards increased flexibility, strength, balance and improved functioning of body systems. The class begins with yogic breathing practices, with the asana practice increasing in intensity to suit the level of the class and flows into deeper stretching as the body warms up. The class concludes with a relaxation/ meditation.

Starting the day with a dynamic yoga practice is highly recommended as you can work deeply into the systems of the body.  The digestive system is at its most empty, the circulatory system gets moving, and the parasympathetic nervous system is activated (the bodies ‘rest and digest’ mode).

Yin yoga is a meditative practice that gives us time to slow down and connect with the body, and to explore the depths of the body and mind. The yin approach to yoga practice targets tissues of the body that are difficult to affect in more dynamic styles of yoga.

Please note that the lights are kept low to maintain a relaxed feeling in the class.

For those new to yoga or those coming back to your yoga practice, this class will introduce you to a sequence of postures (asanas) and give you an understanding of the foundations of hatha yoga practice.

Each class will focus on strength building postures and gentle stretching, as you are guided through the yoga postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditations.  The aim is that you body will have more freedom and less tightness, and your mind will be more clear and calm.

What you will learn/ experience:

  • The foundational postures of hatha yoga
  • Instructions on how to bring safe and correct alignment and engagement in the postures
  • Guidance though breathing techniques and how to link those with the movements
  • Foundational meditations and relaxations

Getting strong where modern life can makes us weak. Strength has the quality of steadiness and stability but can close you up – so we look to cultivate strength over a range.

For the body: opening the hips and shoulders – and taking the spine through all directions of movement including upside down. For the mind: calming the mind in order to be able to choose what we attend to.

 

8:30am Ashtanga Yoga @ Hubert St

Sundays 8:30am-9:30am @ Hubert St

Suitable for those with some experience for ashtanga yoga and wish to continue learning and practicing the sequence.

This flowing sequence build fitness, strength and focus. Practicing a set sequence gives you insights to the shifts and changes in the body and mind that comes with regular yoga practice.

9:30am Gentle Hatha Yoga – Zoom

Yoga with a focus on gentle asanas (postures), improving mobility, slowing downing, inner reflection and relaxation. Suitable for all, including those with minor injuries.
